ADD/ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
ADD/ADHD and ASD are underlying perception disorders. Choosing a homeopathic remedy for these patients is relatively challenging. Therefore, Heiner Frei developed the Checklist for Perception Disorders, where we distinguish between symptoms with high reliability, medium reliability, and low reliability. It is important to focus on the highly reliable symptoms, which can help quickly narrow down the choice to a few likely remedies.
If this is not possible, symptoms with medium reliability can also be included. Symptoms with low reliability on the checklist should only be used as additional confirmatory symptoms for the final remedy selection.
Of course, we also include ADD/ADHD patients' other chronic conditions that are not related to perception disorders. Therefore, patients must also complete the Diagnoses and Main Symptoms questionnaires as well as the Checklist for Important Symptoms.
Evaluation
The Perception Disorders Assessment Form (Conners Global Index, CGI) is used to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment. Patients or their parents fill it out before treatment and at each follow-up.
The total score reflects the intensity of the symptoms - if the treatment is successful, this score will gradually decrease. It is important to inform that improvement occurs gradually, and treatment must continue for several years.
The graphic below shows the development of the Conners Global Index for ADHD and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) over two years of treatment. With multi-year treatment, the achieved improvement is largely maintained after the end of the treatment.
In 2022 Gaertner, Teut und Walach confirmed in a meta-analysis of individualised homeopathy “a clinically relevant and statistically robust effect in the treatment of ADHD”. I.e. the homeopathic treatment of ADHD is highly evidence-based (Springer Nature, June 14, 2022).
Polarity Analysis in Homeopathy (PA) was developed by Dr. Heiner Frei for a scientific double-blind study in Switzerland that examined homeopathic treatment of hyperactive children. The results of this study showed a significant difference between homeopathic remedies and placebo.
